Since 2010, as in all our work on combating
child, early and forced marriages, in this
research, we aimed to make the needs and
obligations visible, audible and known in
order to realise the human rights of girls and
women and to prevent violations of rights.
For this reason, we looked closely at
individual and social prejudices, i.e.
perceptions and attitudes among the root
causes of child marriage.
In Türkiye, which is going through one of the
most difficult years of the era of polycrisis,
earthquakes, floods, displacement and the
economic crisis have brought many
problems in the field of social policy,
increasing and deepening inequalities,
poverty and discrimination to the surface
and made them uncoverable. UNICEF[12]
and UN Women expressed the risk of an
increase in child marriages after the
earthquake; they included this issue in the
first identification studies they carried out in
the region after the earthquake. In the
Provincial Action Plans for Combating Early
and Forced Marriage workshops, UN
Women aimed to revise the plans of 27
provinces by taking into account the risks
that may occur during natural disasters.
